Three adult education programs in Connecticut: Vernon Regional, EASTCONN and ERACE, have incorporated STEM related courses into their programs. Although each program differs, they all share the goals to expose students to STEM related fields, improve skills and increase confidence to pursue further education and employment in a STEM related field.
Vernon Regional offers a variety of STEM related courses. Currently available is Math Academy, Online Bridges Math, Advanced Writing, Green Energy Course and an added STEM component to Workforce Preparation.
EASTCONN offers three courses: Foundations of Algebra, Design Squad and Adult Learners Guide to College Success. The Willimantic Design Squad class set up interactive stations where they invited their guests to tackle their favorite Design Squad challenges. EASTCONN will be presenting a Design Squad workshop to other adult education programs at this year's CAACE conference to promote STEM awareness.
ERACE offers three STEM related courses: Math Academy, STEM Writing and STEM Careers. STEM creates a more serious tone for all the students; providing them with a more college-like atmosphere and preparing them for the rigors of college courses. The use of technology has been a great bonus for the program.
